Some of us still remember the vibrancy of Main Street America and the satisfaction we enjoyed from supporting local businesses and knowing all the shop owners in town by name. At Simon the Tanner that experience is still very much a part of our vision and goal. We believe that whether you’re shopping on our website or coming thru the front door of our stores that you deserve to be the given the best possible care and service available. Around here it starts with a smile and a warm greeting.  We don’t think that shopping should have to be a grueling experience. So come by and relax. Our business was born out of necessity and a sincere desire to meet a pressing need. Simon the Tanner started in the 1980s repairing shoes and meeting the needs of our large communal family. From there we grew to be a full-fledged retail store striving to meet the needs of our families, friends and neighbors; providing everyone we serve with a good quality product at a reasonable price. We’re still driven by the same goals and desires today and we look forward to serving you.

Our Lancaster, New Hampshire store was literally built from the ruins of a burned out building. The Chesley Block, destroyed by fire in 1987, was gradually restored over the years and became the home of Simon the Tanner in 1998. It would have been easier to tear the building down and leave an empty lot in this once active Main Street town but we could see a gem in the rough. In 2000 we opened up the newly renovated first floor and overnight Main Street began to experience revitalization.

Today Simon the Tanner in Lancaster is an anchor retail business as well as a destination shopping experience. Simon the Tanner has received numerous awards at both the local and State levels for this work of restoration. Recently our store was certified as a Best of New Hampshire Grand Shopping retailer.  We hope you’ll receive our invitation to drop by for a cup of coffee or tea and we’ll give you the tour.
